Mental Health First Aid Course
Become a Mental Health First Aider with this course from Torfaen Talks CIC.
We have limited spaces available for our next course in January 2025. The course will take place over two online sessions with further online learning required beforehand.
This project is funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and Torfaen County Borough Council.
To gain a qualification in MHFA Wales you will need to attend the full Adult MHFA Wales course.
Commitment Required - 10 Hours!
Five Modules
Modules 1 - 3 Home Learning (Approx 3 hours)
Online Session - Monday 20th January 10am-1pm
Modules 4 - 5 Home Learning (Approx 2 hours)
Online Session - Monday 27th January 10am-12pm

About
This course trains you as a Mental Health First Aider, giving you:
An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
The value of this course is approximately £160 per person.
In this instance, we have places for individuals who reside in Torfaen for £40.
Format
Two session online course
Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
Each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan
We limit numbers to 10 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn
